The boat.

Ribeye 330 t grp inflatable rib, believed to be about 9 years old. The boat is in good condition with no patches or leaks and holds air no trouble at all. It comes with the blue ( newish ) cover in the photo, plus a grey full winter cover. It  has 2 oars,  and is in very very good condition. There is some sun fading and the odd mark discolouration , but the tubes are all very sound as is the hull. As  the boat has been in the water on the marina since April it did have 2 coats of white antifoul earlier in the season.There is also a bilge pump and new battery attached to a perspex plate that I had made the drops into place if you leave the boat without the cover on it takes all the rain water away , so its nice and dry  when you come to use it.

The Engine.

There is I believe an early 90′s , Mercury 15 hp , short shaft outboard motor is very good condition. I bought this for the boat for £ 600 last year , and immediately it was professionally serviced with new impellor plugs and oil.  I also had a new stop button fitted to the tiller handle  as this  had been taken off. The engineer gave the engine a very clean bill of health ,  it starts easily  and really zips  the boat along .  The leg has been touched up with paint at some time and so has the cowling, I also fitted a new propellor.I also fitted the dolphins to  give it a little bit more lift.  In  short a great little engine  that is all eready  for the season having only probably been used for an  hour or so since the service. Fuell tank and line included.

The trailer.

Really good 2 wheel galvanised trailer. I fitted complete new hubs at the beginning of last year  and the wheels have never been in water since.  the jockey wheel , light board  and hitch all work perfectly ,  and the boat is very light to tow.  I tow it with a small Renault Clio van no trouble , although I usually lift  the engine off and carry that seperately whilst towing. The boat is easily lifted minus the engine by two people so is very easy to launch off a beach  or slipway. You will need a number plate and a ratchet  strap to hold the boat and you are away.

Extras.

As well as the portable bilge pump, there is an small collapsable anchor , boat hook, 2 adult typhoon life jackets ( would recommend you have these checked free by RNLI ) and 2 childrens buoyancy aids. There is also a spare wheel and tyre for the trailer and an unused puncture outfit , plus  the pump.

Altogether this is a great little boat package ,  with a  sturdy rib, reliable engine,  and all the gear you might need to get out and about on the water.

The one issue with the boat, when in winter storage I reduced the pressure in the tubes and let all the air out of the keel tube.

A mouse bit the deflated keel ( Not the tubes),

This does not affect the Tubes or prevent the boat being air or water tight or affect the inflatable floor.

Only the internal central keel which required one patch as per picture and is now air tight.

Are you looking for a cheap way to get out on the water this summer?If you know anything about Zapcats, you will understand why this type of boat is so popular. They are very fast (can be ridiculously fast depending on what enging you put on it – it is rated up to a 50hp which will go like stink) but the best thing about them for me is that they are incredibly smooth and extremely stable. The catamaran design means that you knife through chop rather be slammed and it feels as though it is on rails. Another bonus is that they are very economonical on fuel due to the radically reduced drag. I bought this last October and have used it for approximately 14 hrs (I can remember six separate outings) and it has been kept in an insultated shed on a mushroom farm, so it is in extremely good condition. I am including the trailer that you can see in the last photo. Please note that this is NOT the trailer in the other photos. I had that trailer custom built, but it cost £800 and I want to keep it for the new boat as it is basically brand new. The trailer that is included is a very similar design though and has a separate launch trolley that sits on top of a jet ski trailer, so there is no need to get the main hubs wet. This trailer came with the boat that I bought as a replacement (long story, but it was really the engine that I wanted) – it is structurally fine but is a few  years old and looks a little bit tatty. I drove it up to Colchester from Hastings on the south coast when I picked it up and it arrived safe and sound. I gave the launch trolley a good scrub with a wire brush and a coat of hammerite and it is looking a lot cleaner already but don’t expect a brand new trailer (reflected in the price). Having a launch trolley is superb as it really is a one man operation
to get it in and out of the water (the boat only ways 70kg) and it does save the main trailer from immersion. I used the boat with a 30hp Yamaha and it went very well (had it timed on a GPS device at 60kmph) but you definitely want a short shaft engine for the boat. The yamaha was fine when on the plane but suffered from water gushing up when coming off the plane, as the shaft length was a bit too long. Any short shaft motor will work though. I have heard of them being used with 18hp and they are still quick and you can see what it is like with a 50 at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulG-OJeW2kU (this is an identical boat, so you can see how well it goes). I wasn’t planning on selling it but had an opportunity to buy a Tohatsu 50 which was attached to a boat, which I couldn’t resist so need to clear the space (the shed is currently rammed full with both boats and trailers)! The new boat that I have got is a very similar design as I am totally sold on the principle of the catamaran style boat. These boats are based on the zapcat / thundercat design but a bit longer at 4.5m so much more practical in terms of space. It is surprising how much bigger they are when compared to the zapcats. These were also built from heavy duty (1.2mm) PVC and are beefed up in all the right places – heavier but much stronger and they feel as though they are built to last. The deck is made from 4 pieces of marine grade alloy, so light and strong. Down sides? If you want to race, don’t buy it as it isn’t an official Zapcat. I have also been asked if they will pack down and go in the back of the car. They will (I put it in the back of my car when I picked it up from North Wales) but my car is pretty big and I just don’t think you would be inclined to use it as much if you had to lug it around deflated all the time. They feel heavy when deflated and it is pretty hard to carry on your own (doable, but only just and definitely better as a two man operation). It does pump up pretty quickly though. Just a personal opinion and I know that some people do them in that manner. Please note that the trailer is included in the sale, so you have the ability to avoid having to pump it up!I can’t really think what else to write about it.
